The Parkes pulsar timing array second data release: timing analysis

چکیده

The main goal of pulsar timing array experiments is to detect correlated signals such as nanohertz-frequency gravitational waves. Pulsar data collected in dense monitoring campaigns can also be used study the stars themselves, their binary companions, and intervening ionised interstellar medium. Timing observations are extraordinarily sensitive changes path length between Earth, enabling precise measurements positions, distances velocities, shapes orbits. Here we present a analysis 25 pulsars observed part Parkes Array (PPTA) project over time spans up 24 yr. from second release PPTA, which have extended by including legacy data. We make first detection Shapiro delay four Southern (PSRs J1017$-$7156, J1125$-$6014, J1545$-$4550, J1732$-$5049), parallax six pulsars. prominent PSR J1125$-$6014 implies neutron star mass $M_p = 1.5 \pm 0.2 M_\odot$ (68% credibility interval). Measurements both relativistic periastron advance J1600$-$3053 yield large but uncertain 2.06^{+0.44}_{-0.41}$ M$_\odot$ measure distance J1909$-$3744 precision 10 lyr, indicating that for wave periods decade, provides coherent baseline experiments.

Timing the Parkes Multibeam Pulsars

Measurement of accurate positions, pulse periods and period derivatives is an essential follow-up to any pulsar survey. The procedures being used to obtain timing parameters for the pulsars discovered in the Parkes multibeam pulsar survey are described. Completed solutions have been obtained so far for about 80 pulsars. They show that the survey is preferentially finding pulsars with higher tha...

Pulsar Timing

The motivation for radio pulsar timing and its basic principles are reviewed. Present and future radio timing techniques and hardware are summarised and compared. The array of present timing programmes and their scientific goals are collated and described. Recent results and future prospects are discussed, with emphasis on multi-wavelength techniques where appropriate. Timing of radio pulsars a...

High-Precision Baseband Timing at Parkes

We present recent observations of three pulsars, PSR J1909-3744, PSR J1600-3053, and PSR J1022+1001, that demonstrate remarkable levels of timing precision and instrumental stability. Data were taken with CPSR2, a new baseband recording system at the Parkes radio telescope, during the first 12 months of operation.

The Parkes Observatory Pulsar Data Archive

The Parkes pulsar data archive currently provides access to 144044 data files obtained from observations carried out at the Parkes observatory since the year 1991. Around 10 files are from surveys of the sky, the remainder are observations of 775 individual pulsars and their corresponding calibration signals. Survey observations are included from the Parkes 70 cm and the Swinburne Intermediate ...

The Parkes multibeam pulsar survey: VI. Discovery and timing of 142 pulsars and a Galactic population analysis

We present the discovery and follow-up observations of 142 pulsars found in the Parkes 20-cm multibeam pulsar survey of the Galactic plane. These new discoveries bring the total number of pulsars found by the survey to 742. In addition to tabulating spin and astrometric parameters, along with pulse width and flux density information, we present orbital characteristics for 13 binary pulsars whic...
